How to Replace the Battery
If you find yourself having to replace the battery in your Range Rover, there are a few things that could be the root cause. The first thing to do is make sure all connections jeep battery are clean and tight. It’s also important to check the terminals for corrosion.
Another issue that can lead to a dead battery is the alternator not working correctly. The alternator is responsible for charging your vehicle’s battery while you are driving, so it’s important to have it replaced if it’s not doing its job.
Lastly, the heat in your area can lead to the battery wearing out faster than normal. It’s a good idea to have your battery checked every 3 to 5 years, or more frequently in hotter areas.
When it comes to replacing your Range Rover’s battery, there are a few different methods you can use. The most common way is to use a tool like a screwdriver and open the key fob to pop it open and remove it. After removing the key fob, you’ll need to remove all of the parts that keep the battery in place and then lift out the old one.
Once you have the new battery installed, start your car and turn on all the accessories, then let it sit for a minute or two so that the system’s can recalibrate. You can then take your Range Rover for a short drive to test the battery’s performance.
Accessing the Battery
The big battery lives under the spare tire, buried under all sorts of plastic cladding. Thankfully, Land Rover engineers designed it with terminals that make charging easy. Connecting the positive and negative leads is a simple matter of connecting to matching terminals. Far easier than on older cars, in fact.
The small battery in your key fob is a little harder to replace, but it isn’t impossible. You’ll need a new CR2032 battery. These can be picked up at hardware stores and third-party auto parts centers in Rumson and Red Bank. You’ll also need a screwdriver to pry open the key fob casing. Once you’ve opened it, you can remove the old battery and place the new one right where it belongs, but remember to avoid touching it directly because the oils and moisture from your fingers will shorten its life.
When you’ve replaced the battery in your key fob, you’ll need to reset some radio presets and re-enter a security code. You’ll find these codes in the owner’s manual or on a card inside the glove box door. If you can’t find the code, call Land Rover and they’ll give it to you for free. It’s a good idea to replace the battery in your key fob every four years to keep the electronic functions working properly.
Disconnecting the Battery
It’s possible that during your battery replacement, you unintentionally disturbed another connection or component. Thoroughly inspect your work area to ensure no other wires are disconnected or damaged. Also, make sure you have secure grounds and fuses related to the ignition system. If everything looks good and your Range Rover still won’t start, it may be time for a diagnostic scan.
If you disconnect the battery, you’ll need to wait 10 minutes for the SRS (Seatbelt Retractors) to disable. You’ll also need to leave the driver side door open so the Range Rover doesn’t try to go into Super Lock.
It’s probably best to buy one of these disconnect devices that are made specifically for preventing parasitic drain. They are inexpensive and can save you the hassle of waiting for all of the computers to die when you shut off the engine. They will also keep your battery charged when you are not driving the vehicle. They can be found online for around $20. Alternatively, you can use a regular jump lead. Just be sure to follow the same procedure of waiting, undoing the nut on the battery disconnect thingy, then removing the cable from the positive terminal. You’ll then need to reconnect the possitive battery terminal and the yellow explosive wire.
Reconnecting the Battery
Your Land Rover’s battery powers your electric motor and all of its accessories, but it gradually loses power over time. Connect the red probe to the positive terminal and the black probe to the negative terminal. A fully charged battery should read around 12.6 to 12.8 volts.
